Mose and Leah Theoret Catholic School Tuition Assistance Endowment –Marie Theoret, daughter of Mose and Leah, established the Mose and Leah Theoret Catholic School Tuition Assistance Endowment to provide financial support to St. Francis de Sales Catholic School in Manistique and Holy Name Catholic School in Escanaba, aiding students with financial need. This endowment specifically assists pre-k families at St. Francis de Sales Catholic School, ensuring access to quality education. As the pre-k program serves as the initial step into the school, contributions to the fund open doors for more individuals to benefit from the distinctive educational experience offered by St. Francis.
Marie Theoret, the eldest of Mose and Leah Theoret's six children graduated from Escanaba High School in 1941 and pursued a master's degree in Education at the University of Wisconsin. For 35 years, she dedicated herself to teaching at Pulaski High School in Milwaukee, where she held the position of English Department Chair for 25 years. Following retirement, Marie moved to Flat Rock, MI, to care for her mother, Leah. During nearly three decades of retirement, she actively engaged in faith formation and evangelization at Holy Family Parish in Flat Rock, serving as a weekday lector, evangelization coordinator, and CCD teacher. Marie's support extended to St. Francis de Sales School and Holy Name School, where her nephew, Fr. Glenn Theoret, served for 12 years.
Mose and Leah, Marie’s parents and Fr. Glenn’s grandparents, ran a general merchandise store in Flat Rock and were integral members of Holy Family Parish. Their deep commitment to Catholic faith and education inspired Marie to honor their legacy by establishing a tuition assistance fund, ensuring that Catholic education remains accessible to all families seeking a solid foundation for their children.

The SFDS Education Foundation was started in 1983 to provide supplementary operating funds for the school. Its founders realized that with the reduction in the number of Franciscan Sisters available as teachers, additional funding beyond tuition payments, would be needed for the school to continue to operate. It was hoped that the Education Foundation would eventually be able to provide one-third of the operating funds for the school. Through the generosity of parishioners and alumni, the Foundation is presently able to provide about 20% of the school operating funds. The Foundation is governed by a local Board of Directors and its by-laws state that only earnings (interest and dividends) from Foundation investments can be distributed to the school. The principle is to remain intact and grow mainly from contributions. Donors to the Education Foundation can rest assured that their donation will provide funding to the school in perpetuity.
Library Fund (Please contact the school office to donate to this fund.)
A gift to the St. Francis Library Fund will assist in sustaining the library in the school. Contributions support the purchase of books, audio materials, programs, and other materials. All of our students benefit from the library, so your gift to the Library Fund will directly affect every student that attends St. Francis de Sales School.
Textbook Fund (Please contact the school office to donate to this fund.)
The Textbook Fund was created to help offset the rising costs of textbooks. Textbook expenses consistently create ongoing financial challenges and a gift to the St. Francis Textbook Fund will help to alleviate these challenges. This fund is ever more important as St. Francis continues to convert each core subject to a Classical Education model. It is expensive to purchase new curriculum materials, but you can help!
Technology Fund (Please contact the school office to donate to this fund.)
One of the most expensive ongoing costs at St. Francis is ensuring our students have the most up-to-date, relevant technology in their hands. This could mean new computers in the computer lab, a one-to-one laptop program in the middle school, iPads, and much more. Your gift to the SFDS Technology Fund helps the school as we continue to offer our students the latest in all things technology.
Athletic Fund (Please contact the school office to donate to this fund.)
The SFDS Athletic Fund is designed to cover the costs of school sponsored sporting events and teams at St. Francis. Your gift to the Athletic Fund supports expenses associated with equipment, travel, tournament fees, and jerseys. St. Francis de Sales School has a long history of athletic excellence, and your gift will help to continue this storied tradition.
