Today the 7th and 8th grade students read children's stories they had previously created in a recent science unit. The students were learning about the atomic structure and the different elements. One of the assignments during the unit was to create a children's book illustrating a story of one of the elements on the Periodic Table of Elements. The pictures below show the students reading to Mrs. Wood's 1st grade children.
The 7th and 8th grade students recently demonstrated their understanding of the Periodic Table, individual elements, and the structure of an atom. They learned that every element's atom has protons, neutrons, and electrons. The students chose different elements (Oxygen and Carbon are shown below) and represented an atom complete with the nucleus and shells/orbitals with the protons, neutrons, and electrons clearly described. The activity proved to be a fun, creative way for the students to illustrate their hard work during this particular unit in science class.
