Michigan History Day, which is affiliated with National History Day, is a program of the Historical Society of Michigan and has four competition levels: (1) School Competition – this competition recently took place at St. Francis School (2) District Competition – Michigan is divided into 11 districts. The finalists at the school competition move on to the District 11 competition (3) State Competition – The top three entries in each category at the district competition get to move on to the state competition; this year the state competition is being held at Bay City Central High School on April 30, 2016 (4) National Competition – The top two entries in each category at the state level will have the opportunity to compete at the National History Day competition at the University of Maryland-College Park near Washington, D.C.
St. Francis de Sales School will be sending four students to the state competition in Bay City this year. 1st place was Madison Zellar with her project on Madame Curie. 2nd place was Paige Rochefort with her project on Bergen Belsen, and 3rd place was Delaney Zellar presenting Jane Goodall. Jude Way took the top prize in the website category for his project on Voyager 2. The two honorable mentions were Carson Sprader depicting Operation Neptune Spear and Daniel Michalik and his project on Osama bin Laden.
